    Ranged weapons are great at keeping Enemies at a distance. Headshots will typically do more Damage, but can be easily missed, so take your time to make every shot count. Aiming down sights with Secondary consumes Stamina in exchange for higher Accuracy and less Recoil.

    Scrapping an armor piece will unlock it as a cosmetic. Cosmetics can be accessed on the character screen.

    The basic resources you will need are Plant Fibers, Wood, and Small Stones.

    These can be found all around you and can easily be harvested using your fists by attacking plant, wood, and stone objects.

    You can also pick up small stones by looking at them and using the Interact action.
    Press Primary to punch grass, shrubs, and small stones. Look for yellow navigation icons to find resources.

    Use the Stone Axe to gather more primitive resources.
    Some Tools are better than others at harvesting certain materials. Using your Empty Hands to collect Wood and Small Stones is fine, but a good Stone Axe will do it much faster.

    The Stone Axe is also used in Repairing and Upgrading blocks like Building Blocks.
    Press Primary to harvest wood from trees and small stones from boulders.

    Craft a Bedroll from plant fibers.
    When you place a Bedroll you will see a Bed Icon on your Compass and Map. These will lead you back to your Home and can act as a Respawn point on your Death, based on your Game Settings.

    You can have only 1 active Bedroll, which will be the last one you placed. Placing a new Bedroll and destroying or picking up the last placed one will permanently clear all previous Respawn points.

    An active Bedroll will prevent enemy Respawns in the area. The size of this protected area is shown during placement of a Bedroll.
    Press Primary to rotate and Secondary to place the Bedroll.

    Craft a Building Block.
    The Shape Menu allows you to choose from thousands of custom shapes to Build your Home with.

    To access the Shape Menu, place a Building Block on your Toolbelt, then hold Reload and select the Shape icon from the Radial Menu. Select a Shape from the menu and use Inventory to close it. You can now Build by placing the selected Shape.

    Variant Helpers behave the same way, and allow you to select from specific objects to place into the world from a single held Block, such as Potted Plants or Furniture.

    NOTE: Players on PC can use Shift + Reload to enter the menu, then use Shift + Primary to quickly exit with the currently highlighted Shape selected.

    Craft a Land Claim Block to protect your base.
    Land Claim Blocks (LCBs) apply a Hardness Modifier to Blocks inside the Claimed Area, protecting from Damage by non-allied Players. Party Members must be allied with the LCB owner, with up to 5 LCBs per Player. Placing Blocks inside the Claimed Area will indicate:

    Green for Owner, Yellow for Allies, White for no claim, and Red for restricted placement.

    LCBs will also prevent Sleeper and Biome respawns, but allow Blood Moon or Screamer spawns. Pressing Activate on the LCB toggles the Claim Area bounds. To remove an LCB, aim and hold Activate, then select Remove from the Radial Menu.

    Place Doors and Hatches with Secondary.

    Cycle rotations forward with Primary and backwards with Reload.

    Doors and Hatches can be repaired and upgraded to stronger versions by using Secondary while holding a Repair Tool and having the correct items in your inventory.

    Open or Close Doors and Hatches with Activate.
    Hold Activate to open a Radial Menu with options to Lock or unlock the door/hatch and Enter a Passcode to restrict who can use them.

    Rotate Blocks forward with Primary and backwards with Reload. Place Blocks in a clear space with Secondary.

    There are several advanced Radial Menu options available by holding Reload while aimed at a Block.

    Copy Rotation copies the rotation to the Block on your Toolbelt.
    Copy Shape copies the exact shape to the Block on your Toolbelt.
    Copy Shape and Rotation copies both to the Block on your Toolbelt.
    On Face is used to attach things like Light Fixtures or Signs to walls.
    Simple Rotations restores the default rotation of the Block.
    Advanced Rotations allows for additional rotations on some Blocks.

    Most Blocks have 24 rotations, while some include 4 additional 45° rotations.

    Building Blocks are used to Build your Home, but are easily destroyed by Enemies. To increases their Health and make them tougher for Enemies to destroy, Building Blocks and their various shapes can be upgraded to Wood, Cobblestone, Concrete, and then Steel in that order.

    Use Secondary while holding a Repair Tool and having the correct Upgrade Items in your inventory to upgrade Blocks.

    Missing Upgrade Items will be indicated in the bottom right of your HUD.
    Press and Hold Secondary to upgrade the Building Block to a Wood Block.
    Collect more wood if needed.

    Zombies do increased Damage against Wood Blocks, and groups of Zombies apply even more Damage per Zombie in the group.

    Blocks made from Cobblestone or stronger reduce this Damage and are able to survive longer while being attacked by Enemies.

    Use Secondary while holding a Repair Tool and having the correct Upgrade Items in your inventory to upgrade Blocks.

    Use the Campfire to make Charred Meat from Raw Meat to keep your Food level up to improve Healing. Your Food level is visible as the Green bar on the HUD.

    Make better recipes with improved bonuses by reading Home Cooking Weekly Magazines.

    Installing a Cooking Pot allows you to boil Murky Water, a Cooking Grill unlocks additional Food recipes and the Beaker enables basic Chemistry crafting.

    Drink from a water source.
    Water is a factor in how fast your Health and Stamina recovers.

    Drink from pools of Murky Water by hovering the Crosshairs over them with Empty Hands, then pressing Activate when the prompt appears. As with Drinking Murky Water from your Inventory, there is the risk of contracting Dysentery.

    You can boil Murky Water with a Cooking Pot at a Campfire into clean Water. Your water level is visible as the Light Blue bar on the HUD.

    Water will affect regen speed when it is below 50% and 25%. All Drinks will provide a small bonus to Stamina regeneration while the Drink buff is visible.

    Select a Food or Drink item on your Toolbelt then consume it with Primary.

    Consuming Food and Drinks affects your Food and Water levels and can cause Debuffs like Dysentery. Dysentery can be reduced with Perks such as Iron Gut or treated using items such as Goldenrod Tea.

    Radiated, Charged, and Infernal zombies regenerate their health and deal severe damage, making them a stubborn threat until eliminated.

    Perks grant you abilities and some increase the chance to find more loot related to that Perk.

    For example, perking into Boomstick will increase the chance to find Shotguns, Shotgun Shells, Shotgun Parts, and Shotgun Weekly Magazines.

    Higher Perk levels require certain Attribute levels.

    Once resources have been Smelted into the Forge they will be available for use in recipes there.

    Installing an Anvil or Bellows will increase performance, while adding a Crucible allows you to craft Steel items.

    Don't forget to throw your Explosives before it goes off in your hand.

    Crafting Skill Magazines come in a wide range of topics. Reading them will increase your Crafting Skill which increases the Quality and/or Technology Tier of the item being crafted. You can track your Crafting Skill progression in the Skills Window and selecting the Hammer icon in the category header.

    Crafting Skill Magazines can be found in various loot containers such as Mailboxes, for sale at Traders, or given as a Quest Reward.
    Open the inventory Inventory and read any Crafting Skill Magazine.

    Traders have a wide stock of Items available for sale in many Categories. As you progress, your Trader Stage will increase and Traders will stock more Items as well as offering new, higher Quality items for sale.

    Each Trader also Specializes in specific Categories. For instance, Trader Rekt has a Specialization in Food and Seeds which means he has more Meals for sale, while Trader Jen is Specialized in Medical supplies and stocks more Bandages.

    Prices at Traders are based on your Barter statistic, which can be modified by items like Consumables and some Armor.

    Complete some Quests from Traders.
    Traders offer several Quest types which reward the player with Dukes, XP, and Items. Quests must be returned to the Trader that you accepted them from. A Quest at a POI will fail if you leave without completing all objectives.

    Start a Quest by approaching the Activation Marker, identified by the Yellow exclamation point and activating it with Activate.

    WARNING: This will cause the POI to Completely reset, removing ANY player placed Blocks, including Containers, Building Blocks, and Decorations. This reset is Permanent and Irreversible so make sure you double check before you Activate the marker.

    Placing a Bedroll, or Land Claim Block, will protect the POI from being Reset in this manner.

    Complete a Quest Tier from a Trader.
    Traders offer Quests based on your Quest Tier. Completing 10 quests with a Trader will complete that tier of Quests with them. By default, up to 3 quests per day will advance Quest Tier Progression. Additional quests will grant rewards but not count towards Quest Tier Progression.

    After completing a Quest Tier, talk to the Trader for a valuable Quest Tier Complete Reward.

    Additional Quest Types will also become available as your Quest Tier increases. You can view your Quest Tier in the Trader Job screen.

    Available Quest Types include Buried Supplies, Clear quests, Fetch quests, Infestations, Fetch and Clear quests and Restore Power.
