7 Days to Die V3.1.0 “Henpocalypse” is now live as an experimental build on Steam. The Fun Pimps describe it as the chicken-farming update: catch fowl in the wild, defend them on the way home, and turn the new Chicken Coop into a steady source of eggs and feathers. Stable is expected soon, provided the experimental phase stays free of critical issues.
How to join the experimental branch (Steam)
- Right-click 7 Days to Die in your library and open Properties
- Switch to the Game Versions & Betas tab
- Select latest_experimental from the dropdown and wait for the download
Before you update
- Sandbox codes: Density and respawn options for enemies and animals are now split into day and night. Existing custom presets and SandboxCodes may need updating — invalid codes can reset some or all settings. Official presets have already been revised.
- Saves: Existing worlds should remain compatible, but a new game is still recommended. Use Manage Saves to back up your world first.
- Localization: A late tooltip fix for the chicken coop (English) clarified that chickens are required for production. Additional languages will follow in a later update.
Headline features
Chicken farming is the centerpiece of V3.1.0. Capture chickens, carry them back to base, and place them in the Chicken Coop workstation. Keep them fed with crafted Rekt’s Chicken Feed (Corn and Rotting Flesh).
The coop supports three tool slots:
- Brooding Lamp — speeds up production and chicken maturation
- Chicken Run — lets chickens forage and cuts feed cost by 50%
- Nesting Box — unlocks breeding and adds nesting slots
A new Chicken Stress system adds risk and flavor: at 100% stress your bird can trigger game-stage-based events (from a simple drop to angry zombies — or angry chickens). The intensity is tunable via sandbox options.
Four new chicken-focused recipes join the cooking roster:
- Chicken Nuggets — filling; temporarily removes encumbrance
- Chicken Wings — temporary melee damage boost and infection immunity
- Ash Chicken Stew — solid food with no zombie smell
- Roadrunner Chicken Jerky — moderate food with a temporary run-speed boost
Sandbox sharing also gets a quality-of-life upgrade: players can now scan, copy, and share sandbox codes via QR code from a phone. Density/respawn controls are fully split (day/night and enemy/animal), and new multipliers cover infection chance, hunger, thirst, and stack size (capped at 30,000). Four new loading-screen images replace older tooltip screens.
The Big Beak cosmetic outfit is planned for the Stable release — not included in this experimental build.
- SandboxCode QR sharing did not ship in the game. The Fun Pimps announcement no longer lists an in-game QR feature for preset codes. On Curbolt we still provide a web QR for SandboxCodes on the server-config page so you can share or transfer codes outside the client.
